Queen Mary’s Bioenterprises (QMB) have the top-of-the-range lab spaces in London, offering the latest technology and lab equipment for a range of uses.
Whether you are working with strong chemicals or bioorganisms, our labs cater to your every research need.
Laboratory Standards & Safety
Our laboratories are Containment level 2 (CL2), which have non-recirculating air regimes with 8–12 air changes per hour. This means you can work on moderate-risk pathogens without worry of contamination or environmental spread.
Our standards dictate that there is negative/positive air pressure between the laboratory and write-up spaces, which is available to stop any airborne movement from organisms, keeping experiments pure and your work in the lab.
Ventilation & Air Handling
Our chemistry-enabled labs are fitted with a fume hood extraction system in the ceiling voids for ducted fume hoods. This ensures that any hazardous fumes or vapours are extracted safely and filtered correctly before being released outside of the building.
Our Fume hood extraction system not only removes the harmful fumes from the lab, but also releases safe and non-harmful air.
Our labs also come with emergency powered lifts with built-in extractors for safe transport of gases. When paired with our fume hood extraction systems, we remove any risk of harmful airborne agents affecting you or the environment.
Laboratory Fit-Out & Furniture
The laboratory furniture includes chemical-resistant Trespa workbenches, which are credited across the globe for their durability in laboratories.
The lab spaces we offer are entirely flexible, meaning you can request the equipment that you need and remove that which you don’t, keeping your lab space optimal for the work you are doing.
Following the conclusion of your experiments, there are write-up spaces available to write up your findings confidentially. These spaces are configurable to your needs, making your write-ups as easy as you need.
Utilities & Electrical Infrastructure
Our lab spaces are powered by a 3-phase electrical system, making the energy output smoother and more efficient than single-phase systems.
Our lab spaces offer both domestic water for drinking as well as soft water for experiments, ensuring that there is little to no mineral interference when conducting experiments.
Our lab spaces also have an emergency generator for critical pieces of lab equipment – e.g.,- 80°C freezers.
Storage & Hazard Management
Our labs are fitted with plenty of storage, and QMB provides dedicated infrastructure and shared support facilities.
Our secure Dewar stores for gas storage and fire-rated solvent cabinets ensure compliant handling of hazardous materials, while shared facilities rooms are equipped with glass washers, autoclaves, ice machines and purified RO water systems to streamline laboratory workflows.
These spaces are supported by intelligent building technology, including energy-efficient lighting and a fully integrated Building Management System (BMS) that monitors and controls internal infrastructure, helping to maintain optimal conditions across the laboratories at all times.
FAQs
All laboratories at Queen Mary’s Bioenterprises (QMB) are Containment Level 2 (CL2), making them suitable for a wide range of biological and chemical research activities.
The laboratories operate non-recirculating air regimes with 8–12 air changes per hour – which ensures a consistent supply of fresh air and supports a clean, controlled working environment.
We offer a variety of labs that are chemistry-enabled and suitable for ducted fume hood installation. Tenants can request the installation of fume hoods in labs that are not chemistry-enabled. This would incur an additional fee for the equipment and the installation.
Chemical-resistant Trespa workbenches are installed throughout the laboratories, offering durability and protection against chemical spillages.
Yes, the laboratories are designed to be flexible. Both laboratory and write-up spaces can be configured to suit your needs.
The laboratories benefit from a 3-phase electrical supply to support specialist equipment, alongside an intelligent lighting system designed to optimise energy efficiency.
Yes, the intelligent lighting system adjusts to usage patterns, helping to reduce energy consumption while maintaining appropriate lighting levels for laboratory work.
