About Us
The Queen Mary BioEnterprises Innovation Centre in London E1 is a brand new building that is the largest purpose-built space in London for start-ups and more mature companies in science and technology, e.g. life science, clinical, environmental, clean-tech and nanotechnology enterprises. The three upper floors provide 39,000 sq. feet of laboratory space.
Queen Mary BioEnterprises is a subsidiary company of Queen Mary, University of London. The Innovation Centre was developed on behalf of the university and in partnership with the LDA. The ground and lower ground floors are occupied by Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. The upper three innovation floors will be fitted out to the semi-bespoke needs of incoming tenants.
What the Innovation Centre Offers
The Innovation Centre’s support services will focus on early IP advice and early business surgeries both with follow-on mentoring. It will provide space for commercial science and technology work in close proximity to a modern medical school and hospital facilities. The Barts and The London medical school is ranked 4th in the UK and its Dental school ranked joint 1st.
Staff in the Innovation Centre who wish to participate in the academic life of the school of medicine and dentistry can apply for honorary contracts with Queen Mary, University of London giving access to seminars, local library and e-resources, and student research projects via MSc and PhD student supervision. There is also a supply of highly qualified technical staff trained in the NHS and at Queen Mary, University of London.
The medical school has invested heavily in genomic technology, proteomics, advanced imaging, flow cytometry and cell sorting, transgenic and clinical research centres. These facilities are available to occupants of the Innovation Centre - subject to capacity - through service-level agreements.
The school has world leaders and opinion formers in cancer, infection, diabetes, haematology, public health, epidemiology, primary care, gastroenterology, neuroscience, genetics, inflammation and immunology and cardiovascular research. This means there is a wealth of local advice and expertise available to Innovation Centre occupants.
